Ko te wai te ora o ngā mea katoa

Water is the life giver of all things

Tēnā tātou katoa - ngā uri ō ngā Iwi ō Te Hiku ō te Ika

Drought

Droughts have hit Te Hiku o te Ika communities’ year-on-year, with hot summers, and no rain.  Te Hiku (Far North) region sustained nine droughts in 10 years.

Water Shortage

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Te Hiku was already in a state of emergency. This saw NZ Army trucks rolling into many Te Hiku communities to top-up household supplies.  This initiative is a way to ensure our whānau can be resilient and have access to their own water supplies in times of crisis and drought.

Mā te wai e ora ai tātou.

He aha te kaupapa?

Puna Wai Ora (Te Hiku Drought Relief) is a three-year programme. A pilot phase, enabling engagement with a small number of whānau and to trial site assessments and installations, commenced in late September 2021 and will end in March 2022.

The pilot is focused on installation of 25 - 30 tanks in the communities of Te Kao, Awanui and Ahipara.

Puna Wai Ora is currently in the main works phase. Assessments will run throughout the year, if you believe you are eligible please contact us.
